ESCONDIDO, Calif. — A fire broke out inside a home in Escondido Friday afternoon, displacing a family.

The blaze started around 2:30 p.m. at a home in the 700 block of Olinda Street. All family members were able to make it out of the house safe with the help from neighbors.

Ray Barrera was heading to work when he saw the smoke and flames coming from the home. He pulled over and banged on the door to let his neighbors know their home was on fire. He called 9-1-1 and he and another neighbor grabbed a hose and tried to put the fire out.

“It was intense,” said Barrera. “We just tried to do the best we could. I just did what I thought any neighbor would do for me.”

Firefighters managed to limit the damage to one side of the home.

Investigators were still looking into what caused the fire.
