OTAY MESA, Calif. – Nearly a dozen big rigs were scorched following an explosion at a trucking company in Otay Mesa Sunday.

Security guards heard an explosion and saw several semi trucks on fire around 3:45 p.m. in a lot on Paseo de la Fuente, witness Pedro Berry-Puebla said.

Thick, black smoke filled the air as the fire spread to approximately 10 trucks on the truck storage property, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.  Crews, along with Hazmat teams, were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes.

No one was reportedly injured by the fire.

The fire left an estimated $400,000 in damages. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The trucking firm California Multimodal Inc. is located on that block, but it wasn’t immediately clear who owned the cabs.
