LA JOLLA, Calif. — A fire broke out at a two-story home in La Jolla Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze was reported around 3:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Westbourne Street, near Windansea Beach, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Crews were able to get the flames under control in under 15 minutes, according to SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz.

The fire was started accidentally by a woman smoking a cigarette, Battalion Chief Lane Woolery said. The woman was taken to UCSD Medical Center to be treated for minor burns.

Nearby homes were briefly evacuated, but the fire did not spread and residents were eventually allowed back into their homes.

The cause of the blaze, which started in an upstairs bedroom, was not yet known.
