Firefighters rescue elderly woman trapped in burning home

SAN DIEGO — Firefighters Tuesday night rescued an elderly woman trapped inside a burning home in North Park.

The fire was reported at 8:51 p.m. at a one-story house in the 3500 block of Alabama Street, near Dwight Street, according to San Diego Fire-Department.

Firefighters heard the woman calling for help and found her on the floor of the living room. The woman was in critical condition when she was taken to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest.

The blaze caused an approximate $500,000 in damage to the home, officials said.
