LEMON GROVE, Calif. -- Smoke poured into an East County nail salon after a "suspicious" fire that broke out just outside the business Thursday morning, officials said.
The flames broke out around 5:45 a.m. in an alley behind Van's Salon, on Broadway Street and Lemon Grove Avenue in Lemon Grove, according to Heartland Fire Department.
By 7 a.m., authorities had the flames under control, though they planned to remain at the scene for several more hours. Crews kept the fire from ever reaching the salon, a Heartland Fire captain told FOX 5, though smoke did enter business.
"The fire was suspicious in nature" because it was ignited in multiple places just outside the salon, Captain Sonny Saghera explained. The sheriff's department Bomb and Arson Unit was investigating.
