POTRERO, Calif. — A SigAlert was issued for state Route 94 between Barrett Junction and Potrero in San Diego’s East County due to a multiple vehicle, fatal traffic collision and brush fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene after an SUV, a motorcycle and another vehicle collided at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday on Highway 94, just east of Highway 188, Officer Mary Bailey said.

Traffic had been reduced to one lane on the 94 between the 188 and Barrett Smith Road, but it may have to be closed in both directions again as the investigation continued, Bailey said.

A black SUV overturned and caught fire in the collision, causing a one-acre brush fire and a full wildland response by Cal Fire, according to Capt. Kendall Bortisser.

Firefighters were able to get the fire extinguished in about a half-hour and kept it at one acre.

The CHP and Cal Fire had no information regarding any other injuries, just that one person had died in the crash.
