LA MESA, Calif. -- Authorities released the names Friday of an East County couple found dead in an apparent case of murder-suicide.

Patrol officers checking on the welfare of William R. Welch, 77, and his 73-year-old wife, Rose, found their bodies at their home in the 6900 block of Wyoming Avenue in La Mesa about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.

Investigators believe that William Welch killed his spouse and then committed suicide, Lt. Brian Stoney said.

No information was released on a possible cause of death. The lieutenant said that autopsies have not been completed.

It was unclear what might have led to the suspected murder-suicide.
