Driver arrested after hitting, killing man in bike lane

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A pedestrian in Oceanside was hit and killed by a car being driven by a man who was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Thursday.

The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Mission Avenue, just east of Mesa Drive.

A man in is late 60’s was walking westbound on the south side of the street when he was struck by a 2002 Kia Sedona that was traveling eastbound, driven by Ricky Robledo, 42.

Witnesses told police that they saw the car swerve into the bike lane and hit the pedestrian. Robledo, who had an 8-year-old child in the car with him, pulled over and waited for emergency crews to arrive.

Robledo was later arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Center on suspicion of felony drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony child endangerment.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken by helicopter to Scripps La Jolla hospital, where he later died.
