SAN DIEGO  – Police were seeking an arrest warrant for a driver suspected of hitting and killing a woman in the Bay Ho neighborhood Thursday night.
A woman, believed to be about 60 years old, was crossing Clairemont Drive in the middle of the block near Hiawatha Way around 9 p.m. when she was hit by a black Ford Fusion that was speeding south, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said. The victim, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene.
The driver drove away after the accident. Police found the car a short time later on the 3800 block of Chippewa Court after a resident out walking his dog saw the damaged car blocking his driveway. The front windshield was cracked on the driver’s side.
Police described the driver as a white woman in her 20s with a ponytail. She was about 5 feet 4 inches tall and wearing a jacket and jeans. Officers said they were in contact with the suspect and were waiting for a warrant to make an arrest.
