SAN DIEGO — A 20-year-old San Diego man has been arrested on suspicion of fleeing the scene of a crash that sent a pickup flying off an elevated freeway ramp, seriously injuring the driver, authorities said.

The crash happened Sunday at about 3 p.m. as Kenneth Freudenvoll of San Diego was driving his yellow Ford F-250 on the transition ramp from westbound Interstate 8 to northbound Interstate 805. Jose Uribe, also of San Diego, was driving a brown Ford Excursion on the same ramp and collided with Freudenvoll, California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Sanchez said. Freudenvoll ‘s truck crashed through the guardrail and landed about 50 feet below in the parking lot at 2931 Camino Del Rio North. The pickup hit and damaged the Dave and Buster’s building on the way down.

Fruedenvoll was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he was being treated for major injuries.

Uribe fled the scene of the accident, Sanchez said. Investigators determined that he was the driver, and they found him at his home Monday at about 5:14 p.m. He was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run at about 7:45 p.m., Sanchez said.

Sanchez would not say how investigators identified Uribe, saying that information was part of the criminal investigation.
