CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A dog from Iowa was living proof this week of the unbreakable bond between people and their pets.
Sissy, a miniature schnauzer, escaped her home and walked 20 blocks to the hospital where her owner Nancy Franck, who had been battling uterine cancer, was recovering from surgery, KCRG reported.
“She missed mom,” daughter Sarah Wood said. “That’s all I can say. She missed mom and she knew to come see mom.”
The family doesn’t know how Sissy found the hospital, but surveillance video showed her walking into the lobby and wandering the halls, apparently searching for her owner.
Hospital security identified Sissy’s owner using her dog tags and brought the dog to Nancy Franck’s hospital room for a quick visit.
After a long couple of weeks in the hospital, the reunion brought a much-needed smile to Nancy’s face.
“That was great just being able to see her,” Nancy Franck said. “That was perfect. I’m glad she thought of it.”
