ESCONDIDO, Calif. — An Escondido doctor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a patient on whom he performed surgery at a Temecula hospital.
John Francis McGuire, 44, of Carlsbad, was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta in lieu of $3 million bail, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Dean Spivacke said McGuire came under suspicion last month following allegations made by a woman who received an unspecified procedure at Temecula Valley Hospital. Her identity was not disclosed, nor were any details regarding the alleged assault.
Sheriff’s detectives spent several weeks investigating the case and “uncovered evidence which supported the victim’s allegations,” Spivacke said.
McGuire was taken into custody without incident. The ear, nose and throat specialist has a practice in the Graybill Medical Center at 225 E. Second Ave. in Escondido.
According to the California Medical Board, McGuire has been a practicing otolaryngologist since 2005. He graduated from the Georgetown University School of Medicine two years earlier.
State records showed no disciplinary actions or malpractice judgments against the suspect.
