SAN DIEGO — A cyclist was badly hurt when he turned his bicycle into the path of an SUV in Mission Bay Park, police said Wednesday.

The 54-year-old rider was turning left onto Perez Cove Way from southbound Ingraham Street when he was struck by a northbound Honda Pilot at the intersection around 7 p.m. Tuesday, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said. The motorist had the right of way.

The rider suffered bleeding to his brain, serious facial injuries and a broken arm in the accident, but Delimitros said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
