SAN DIEGO -- Crews rescued a dog that fell into a deep ditch Thursday night in University City, fire officials said.

Around 6:08 p.m., the owners of a Bullmastif mix called 911 because their dog had fallen into a ditch near Arriba Street and Regents Road, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The dog, "Bruno," was being walked by its owner when he started chasing a rabbit and fell several feet.

SDFD's Technical Rescue Team pulled the dog to safety within two and a half hours.

San Diego Humane Society officers were on standby to assist with the rescue.
