Crews battle fast-moving wildfire north of Fallbrook

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – A rapidly spreading brush fire broke out Sunday in DeLuz, between Camp Pendleton and Fallbrook.

The blaze started about 3 p.m. in the 39400 block of De Luz Road, Cal Fire Public Information Office Kendal Bortisser said.

The fire was reported when it was at about 10 acres and it t started at 10 acres in size but quickly grew to 20 in a half-hour. Within 90 minutes, the fire expanded to 35 acres.

Structures were immediately threatened but firefighters acted quickly and mitigated the danger.

The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire closed down the portion of De Luz/De Luz Murrieta road near the creek and the Santa Margarita Truck Trail.
