SAN DIEGO — Crews are battling a half-acre brush fire in the City Heights area.

The blaze sparked in a canyon just above the Hollywood Palms Apartments in the 4300 block of Home Avenue, east of Interstate 805, at 7:46 p.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

No injures have been reported and no structures are threatened, fire officials say.

The fire spread from a homeless encampment, according to fire officials. Residents say this is the second brush fire to spark nearby in a matter of weeks.

“It’s not safe for us, for me and my kids, and anyone who lives here,” one resident told FOX 5. “We need to fix this problem because we don’t know what’s going to happen to us.”

The on-ramp to 805 North at Home Avenue was shut down while crews mopped up.
