CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Arson is suspected after a fire broke out at an abandoned building Wednesday night in Chula Vista, authorities said.
The blaze at 865 East H Street was reported just after 9 p.m. Chula Vista Fire Department crews arrived and quickly extinguished the flames.
Crews found multiple burn points outside the back of the building, according to fire officials. They say the flames spread to the inside and then through the ceiling, causing smoke to come through the roof of the building, which most recently housed a seafood market.
When Battalion Chief Robert Nelson arrived, he said he witnessed a man running back and forth saying, "I'm a fireman." Chula Vista police were then called to the scene but the man ran off.
No one was inside the structure at the time of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
