SANTA CLARITA, Calif — Fire damaged the iconic Colossus roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain Monday afternoon, just over three weeks after the ride closed for renovation.

Firefighters were called to the amusement park just after 1:30 p.m., KTLA reported.

Helicopter video showed firefighters pouring two powerful streams of water on the highest part of the roller coaster, which was charred black.  Pieces of structure began falling to the ground and then a portion of the track collapsed.

The park was closed Monday.

Contractors had been disassembling the huge wooden roller coaster, which was to be replaced with a hybrid ride called “Twisted Colossus.”
