CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Residents of Chula Vista are rallying against a new development project in the downtown area.
Vista Del Mar project would be a 5-story building at 3rd and K streets near downtown Chula Vista. It would have 76 condo units and the lower level would be available for shops, restaurants or office space.
Chula Vista City Council is expected to vote on the project Tuesday night. Many residents who oppose it gathered Tuesday afternoon and planned to attend the meeting.
Tino and Angela Martinez went door to door Tuesday to gather as many voices as they could. The couple is looking for support against a new condominium project.
They are not opposed to new growth, but added that this particular project doesn’t fit their downtown neighborhood.
“It’s too big. They’re allowing a 5 story building to come into a neighborhood that is single story homes,” Martinez said. “I thought it would be right for me to stop and talk to the neighbors and the consensus so far is that nobody wants this.”
FOX 5 reached out to the developer Dr. Hamid Mani for comment Tuesday, but had yet to hear back from his development team.
