ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was involved in a crash in Escondido Wednesday night.

The collision between the motorcycle and a car happened around 8:30 p.m. on southbound Interstate 15 near the Via Rancho Parkway exit, according to CHP Officer Mark Latulippe said.

The motorcycle officer was heading south on I-15 when he saw a disabled vehicle on the right shoulder, near the end of the onramp, Latulippe said.

He activated his emergency lights and drove toward the stopped vehicle, but as the officer crossed the onramp to reach the shoulder he was struck by a man driving a 2005 Cadillac STS sedan, Latulippe said.

The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries, then taken to Pomerado Hospital for further evaluation, he said.

The Poway man driving the Cadillac was not injured in the collision, Latulippe said.

Authorities temporarily closed the onramp to southbound I-15.
