SAN DIEGO – The California Highway Patrol arrested 53 drivers for suspicion of drunk driving in San Diego County this holiday weekend, 13 fewer than the same period last Thanksgiving weekend.
The statistics cover the period beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Statewide, there were 798 drunk-driving arrests, 142 fewer than last year, according to CHP Officer Tommy Doerr.
The 36 fatalities reported statewide so far this year are more than double last year’s figure of 17, while San Diego County recorded three fatalities this year, one more than last year.
The reported DUI arrests were made only by the CHP, while the number of fatalities was for all law enforcement jurisdictions, Doerr said.
