SAN DIEGO — California Highway Patrol officers have arrested 66 drivers for suspicion of drunk driving in San Diego County so far this holiday weekend, 13 more arrests than during the same period last year.

The Independence Day holiday weekend statistics were released Monday morning by the CHP. The figures cover the time period beginning at 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, according to CHP Officer Mary Bailey.

There have been 948 drunk driving arrests statewide, nearly 20 more than during the same period last year. One fatality was reported in San Diego County so far.  There were 23 fatalities statewide in 2016.
