SAN DIEGO -- A 5-year-old girl suffered a skull fracture when she was struck by a car while crossing the street Thursday night.

The girl and her disabled cousin were riding in an electric wheelchair at the corner of 54th Street and Imperial Avenue in Valencia Park.

The car--a red Cadillac--was attempting to beat the yellow light but misjudged the light change by a few seconds, witnesses said.

The child was taken to Rady Children’s hospital. She is expected to be released within the next two days, family members said.
