SAN DIEGO – A woman was seriously hurt Monday morning after crashing through the end of Regents Road and landing in a canyon, police said.

The woman, in her mid-30s,  flew 40 yards through the air before her car landed upside down on the 3200 block of Lahitte Court in University City. Firefighters had to rescue the woman from her car. They used a rope system to bring her up the canyon.

Neighbors in the area expressed concern that the section of road is particularly dangerous as similar crashes have occurred before.

The driver was taken to Scripps La Jolla hospital with serious injuries.  Police were investigating to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
