NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Authorities ended a chase Saturday night after pursuing a driver who reached speeds that topped 170 miles per hour in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles County.

The high-speed chase started around 6:45 p.m. and lasted about 30 minutes, as the driver led police dangerously through neighborhood streets and onto a freeway. A chopper tracking the wild chase lost track of the car when the driver changed direction and went under an overpass.

Multiple media outlets in Los Angeles were reporting the driver was suspected of attempted murder.
