Dry brush fire dangerCHULA VISTA, Calif. – A brush fire off the South Bay Expressway Saturday blackened several acres in Chula Vista, fire officials said.

The brush fire on the side of northbound state Route 125 south of Birch Road was reported shortly before noon Saturday and firefighters called for the freeway’s lanes to be partially closed, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The blaze scorched five to six acres of brush before it was knocked down at 12:24 p.m., a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

San Diego firefighters assisted Chula Vista units, she said.

Two freeway lanes remained blocked as fire crews mopped up, according to the CHP.
