Brush fire shuts down I-15 and SR-78 connectors

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Firefighters were battling a brush fire Saturday afternoon that impacted traffic in Escondido.

The fire started around 1:12 p.m. Saturday. According to Caltrans, the brush fire blocked the right lane of northbound Interstate 15 at State Route 78 and closed eastbound and westbound connectors for several hours as crews monitored the flames.

All lanes and connectors were reopened around 5:15 p.m., Caltrans said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
