Boy, 4, dies after being hit by SUV in North County

VISTA, Calif. -- A 4-year-old boy died Friday after an SUV hit him in front of a North County apartment complex.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a 66-year-old woman was driving a 2005 Honda CRV westbound in the 800 block of East Bobier Drive in Vista when she hit the boy, who was crossing the street midblock, according to sheriff's officials.

Paramedics airlifted the victim, who had severe head trauma, to Rady Children's Hospital, where he died.

No other injuries were reported. The driver was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs when she hit the child, police said.

Deputies closed the street between Anza Avenue and Calle Jules to through traffic to allow investigators to document the scene of the crash.
