OCEANSIDE, Calif. – A bouncer faces several felony charges following the death of man after a fight outside a North County bar last month, police said Monday.
Derrick Belser turned himself in to Oceanside police on Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest in the death of Mark Girard, Jr.
Girard, 27, was found unconscious in an apartment in the 500 block of Sportfisher Drive on the evening of Dec. 28. The injured man was taken to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, where he died two days later.
Investigators learned that Girard was involved in a fight with Belser outside the Fire Water Saloon about 18 hours earlier. Belser, who is a bouncer at the bar, knocked Girard down during the fight, and Girard hit his head on the ground, police said.
Belser was booked into Vista Jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon and battery with great bodily injury.
