OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender near the Calexico port of entry on Saturday night.

The 37-year-old was deported back to Mexico in 2002 after he was convicted of sex with a minor younger than three years old and sentenced to 162 days jail in California.

He was caught about 11 miles from the border.

“Border Patrol agents routinely encounter individuals with serious criminal histories like this and work diligently to ensure they can do no more harm to those in our community,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.

The man will be criminally prosecuted for re-entry after removal as a convicted sex offender.
