SAN DIEGO — A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was involved in a shooting at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Monday night, authorities said.
Around 7:30 p.m., a white pickup truck arrived at the border crossing to enter the United States, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said in a statement. “The driver failed to stop for an inspection and there was an officer involved shooting,” according to the spokesperson.
The shooting happened in a secondary vehicle inspection area, San Diego police officer John Buttle confirmed.
It was not immediately known who first fired their weapon or whether anyone was injured.
San Diego police were assisting U.S. Customs and Border Protection with the incident.
Northbound lanes for both vehicles and pedestrians were suspended for about 30 minutes, the spokesperson said.
