SAN DIEGO – Police were called early Wednesday to investigate the discovery of a body in the San Diego River west of the River Run Golf Course.

Someone called San Diego police at around 3:30 a.m. to report that they saw someone in the water Tuesday and thought the person was swimming. The caller said they returned later that night and realized that the person was not swimming.

Officers searched the riverbed  until they located the body near the 5300 block of Friars Road and north of Presidio Park just after 7 a.m.

Medical examiners’ technicians have been called to retrieve the body.

\It was not immediately clear whether the body was that of a man or a woman, but police said the circumstances of that person’s death did not appear suspicious.
