SAN DIEGO — San Diego police opened a murder investigation after a body was found in a Mission Valley riverbed late Wednesday night.

An officer was flagged down by a person who spotted the body floating under a bridge just before midnight Wednesday near Friars Road. Officers told FOX 5 the body was found partially submerged in the water near a bike trail, not far from SDCCU Stadium.

Authorities called the person’s death “suspicious” and San Diego’s Homicide Investigation Unit was put in charge of the investigation. A detailed description of the person found in the river was not immediately available.
