SAN DIEGO — Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a park across the street from Belmont Park.
The body was reported at about 6 a.m., police said.
A witness told Fox 5 that he discovered the body lying face down. He shouted trying to rouse the man, but when he turned the body over, he realized that the man was not breathing and called police.
Investigators said the man appears to be a homeless person in his 40s.
San Diego police homicide Lt. Jorge Duran said officers summoned the Homicide Unit after they noticed trauma to the body, although it appeared the injuries would not have been life-threatening.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Duran said.
“Pending (an) autopsy (Thursday) we’ll know more on whether or not he was murdered, or whether or not he had some sort of medical issue,” Duran said.
