ENCINITAS, Calif. — A man was found dead Friday in a home filled with apparent natural gas fumes near Moonlight Beach, authorities said.

The fatality in the 200 block of Florita Street in Encinitas was reported about 11 a.m., according to sheriff’s officials. A friend of the victim discovered the unresponsive man when he stopped by for a visit.

Rescuers brought the man out of the house and tried to revive the person with CPR, but they were unsuccessful. It was not clear if the death was caused by the gas fumes.

It was unclear if the death was accidental or a suicide, Lt. Jim Bolwerk said.

A neighbor told FOX 5 that the man was in his late 40s and lived alone.
