SAN DIEGO — Investigators were trying to determine how a boat became partially submerged in San Diego Bay Sunday.

A report came in around 6:40 a.m. that a 30-foot power boat had sunk off of Zuniga Point near North Island, according to San Diego Harbor Police Sgt. T.D. De La Pena. The area is near Scott Street and San Antonio Place, northwest of Shelter Island.

Police learned no one was on board the vessel when it sank. The owners told investigators they had dropped anchor and left the boat the day before and that it sank overnight.

Many boats in poor condition are left at Zuniga Point and sink or wash ashore onto the Naval Air Station’s shoreline.

Harbor Police are handling the investigation.
