SAN DIEGO – A scary moment happened Wednesday at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach when a boat ran aground and sent kids running.

A witness told FOX 5 the captain of a boat wildly drove his boat dangerously close to the rocks of the jetty around 3 p.m.  He said the boat nearly missed hitting kids who were playing in the area.

"The guy starts plowing into the shore at 30 mph. He was obviously under the influence," a witness told FOX 5. "I thought he was going to hit and kill people."

The boat was last seen bobbing in the water near the shore, a witness said.  San Diego police and lifeguards were seen assisting the captain of the boat, Charlie, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, according to the witness.

The boat captain told FOX 5 that he had been drinking "a little bit." He was detained for a breathalyzer test, which showed he was well under the legal limit and authorities only gave him a warning. He will eventually have to pay the company that towed his boat out of the area.

There were no reports of injuries.
