SAN DIEGO — A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a car in Bonsall Wednesday.

The 63-year-old Colorado man was riding south on state Route 76 when a 2005 Infiniti G35 struck him from behind near Thoroughbred Lane shortly before 10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene, CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe said.

Following the crash, the motorist, a 19-year old Riverside man, drove to a nearby gas station to await the arrival of law enforcement personnel.

Investigators were working to determine who was at fault for the crash. There are bicycle lanes in the area, but it was unclear if the rider was within one at the time of the fatal impact, Latulippe said.
