KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – The 2022 Winter Olympics will be hosted in Beijing, China, the International Olympic Committee announced on Friday.
The announcement was made at the 128th International Olympic Committee session in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
Beijing beat out Almaty, a city in Kazakhstan. Oslo, Munich, and Stockholm bowed to public pressure and decided not to pursue plans to host the winter Olympics.
The win makes Beijing the first city to host both a Winter and a Summer Olympics after they hosted the summer games in 2008.
