SAN DIEGO -- A man barricaded himself in a building at the east end of Pacific Beach for about 11 hours before surrendering Saturday.

A caller told San Diego police Friday at 11:30 p.m. that 53-year-old Kevin McGuinness had shot his business partner, authorities said. When police arrived they found that McGuinness missed his partner, but refused to come out of the building near Garnet Avenue and Mission Bay Drive to talk to them.

Police requested help from a SWAT team after being told McGuinness was armed with explosives.

SWAT team fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the end of the barricade, where McGuinness was holed up inside a structure since the midnight hour.

Officials later found three inactive grenades in the building.

Garnet Avenue remained closed to traffic between Interstate 5 and Mission Bay Drive, cutting the major road link between Clairemont Mesa and PB.
