SAN DIEGO — One man was killed and another was wounded Wednesday night in a shooting at an apartment complex in the College Area, police said.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. at Aztec Pacific Apartments on Montezuma Road near Reservoir Drive, Lt. Matt Dobbs said. A man in his 20s died at the scene and another man around the same age was taken to a hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

Two other people were inside the unit at the time of the shooting but were not wounded, Dobbs said.

Police were searching for two males seen jumping a fence and running away from the building.

Police did not provide a detailed description of those men, and investigators were still trying to determine what led up to the shooting late Wednesday.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call SDPD’s homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward.
