SAN DIEGO — A marijuana farm in Encanto was robbed at gunpoint and one of the employees was tied up Saturday morning, according to San Diego police.

The holdup happened shortly before 11 a.m. at 151 Farmers, a marijuana and food farm, in the 6100 block of Federal Boulevard.

Part of the crime was caught on surveillance camera. In the video, you see three masked men enter the business, at least one of them armed with a gun.

“He confronted one of the employees and threatened him with the weapon,” Officer Tony Martinez said. “The suspects tied up the employee and stole several large bags of marijuana.”

President of 151 Farmers, Darryl Cotton, said the marijuana they took off with is used for medical purposes.

“I’m sure much later they’ll find out that these are non-psychoactive plant materials that won’t get them high. They were designed for patients,” Cotton said.

The plants take about three months to grow.

“It’s hard for us to survive losses like that,” Cotton told FOX 5.

However, he said he is less concerned with the loss he faces.

“Ultimately, they’re stealing from the medical patients because you know if they’re off of opioids and they’re on a more organic regime, they need that on a regular basis,” Cotton said.

The suspects also stole an undisclosed amount of money from the victim’s wallet and got away in two vehicles.

“One of the employees saw one of the suspects leaving in a Chevy rental van. The employee followed the suspect briefly and obtained the vehicle’s license plate (number),” Martinez said. “A short time later, the vehicle was located at Enterprise rental car agency, located at 29 Broadway. The driver of the vehicle was detained and subsequently released.”

No one was hurt in the incident and the suspects are still at large.
