SAN DIEGO- Mayor Bob Filner was received with applause, as he entered the city chambers with a revised budget plan.
Filner has estimated a surplus of over $11 million in extra tax revenue.
“Public safety is my first priority so we will send more recruits through the police academy. We will hire two more life guards, and we are going to help homeless vets have a place to sleep,” the mayor said.
The normally prickly relationship between the mayor and the City Council was more cordial, and the $2.75 billion budget is expected to be subtly tweaked, a few more times, before it’s passed.
