NATIONAL CITY, Calif. – Traffic was backed up for miles on the NB Interstate-5 Wednesday morning after a 5-vehicle crash that sent two drivers to the hospital, the CHP said.
The crash occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. near Mile of Cars Way in National City. A Sig Alert was issued for two northbound lanes. The freeway was completely shut down for several minutes while crews cleaned up the accident.
CHP officers reopened lanes a short time later, but the morning commute remained a nightmare for many drivers and traffic was effected throughout the morning.
The two injured drivers were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, according to San Diego Fire.
In total, five cars were involved. CHP was looking into the cause of the accident.
