SAN DIEGO – A 5-car crash jammed the freeway and sent four people to the hospital Wednesday night on the SB Interstate-5 in Bay Park, the CHP said.

Two cars got into an accident just north of Sea World on the southbound 5 just after 8 p.m. Wednesday. Seconds later, three other cars collided as they tried to avoid the crash.

Four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Several of the vehicles involved sustained heavy front and rear damage.

The crash backed up traffic and a Sig Alert was issued at 8:24 p.m. and lasted for almost an hour, according to CHP.
