GREENSBORO, N.C. – Dozens of bottles of rare French wine stolen from the famed French Laundry restaurant in Napa have been recovered in North Carolina.
According to Fox 8 in Greenboro, 76 bottles of mostly rare French wines, worth an estimated $300,000, were stolen form the French Laundry ‘s wine cellar in Yountville, Calif., on Christmas Day.
After weeks of investigation, detectives from the Napa County Sheriff’s Department traveled to Greensboro, where they recovered most of the stolen wines. Napa County Sheriff’s Capt. Doug Pike told KNTV that investigators recovered 72 bottles Wednesday from a wine buyer how was not aware that the wine had been stolen.
Investigators were still trying to determine how the wines ended up in a Greensboro cellar.
No arrests have been made in the case.
The French Laundry has been rated three stars in the Michelin guide and was twice named the best restaurant in the world by Restaurant Magazine.
