mts-busSAN DIEGO — A man suspected of stabbing two other commuters with a butter knife Friday during a fight in the back of a moving city bus was arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault, authorities reported.

Juan Ferrera, 31, allegedly pulled the kitchen utensil about 9:45 a.m. while riding through Logan Heights and attacked another man, stabbing him in the abdomen and back, according to San Diego police.

During the struggle, a female bystander sustained a leg injury, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said.

When the Metropolitan Transit System vehicle stopped at 31st Street and Imperial Avenue a short time later, Ferrera got off and fled to the west. The victims reported the alleged assaults, and officers located the suspect in the area within a few minutes and took him into custody, according to Cali.

The injured man and woman were taken to a hospital for treatment of serious and minor wounds, respectively.
