SAN DIEGO — One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting in Mt. Hope late Saturday, but the shooter was gone by the time police got to the scene.

Multiple calls came in to police at 5:11 p.m. reporting a shooting near the intersection of 42nd and Market Streets, San Diego Police Sgt. Michael Tansey confirmed.

Officers responding to the scene found two victims — a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old man, San Diego Police Lt. Anthony Dupree said. Both men had gunshot wounds to their upper body.

Police provided medical aid to both men until paramedics were able to take them to local hospitals. The 32-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital, Dupree said.

Investigators believe the victims were in a vehicle when they were shot. Police were searching for a man in a white, four-door pickup truck who was believed to be the shooter, Dupree said.

Both victims have been identified, but police were waiting to notify their families before releasing their names publicly.
