SAN DIEGO – Two people were rescued after a 30-foot sailboat ran aground in along Mission Beach early Tuesday morning, lifeguards said.
The overturned boat was seen on the beach near Ventura Place near the roller coaster Tuesday, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said. Lifeguards were notified of it around 5 a.m.
Lifeguards were not going to be able to tow the 1,500-pound sailboat to the ocean because the keel had been ripped off of the bottom.
The two people aboard the sailboat were not hurt. It was not clear where the boat came from or why it ran aground.
The cost of the damage to the boat was not immediatelhy known.
