SAN DIEGO — A suspected smuggling boat came ashore at Mission Beach early Friday, and authorities took more than a dozen people into custody, police said.

Officers were called to the area of Ocean Front Walk and San Luis Obispo Place at 4:12 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

Witnesses saw people loading stuff into a car, Cali said, adding that a total of about 10 people were taken into custody in the area. Border Patrol officers rounded up another five people.

The Border Patrol was working to determine the immigration status of the 15 people in custody.
